Idea 1: Creating a calm classroom environment using AB Tutor

Ideal way to start a lesson in a computer room. When you start AB Tutor it will ask you for a password – but there isn’t one needed, just press enter and it will load up.

4. Dice linking words

You need dice for this activity! Put 6 key words in one column and 6 in the other. The students then roll the dice twice to identify which word they have to use from each column. They then have to create a statement that uses both key terms. Their partner listens and if they think it makes sense, the speaker gets the points that the dice add up to.Dice linking words

 

Using music to engage students

10 different techniques for using music in the classroom to engage students, ranging from using music to aid concentration in writing tasks, using songs in exercises and getting pupils to create songs and raps to demonstrate learning.

  1. Playing music during writing exercise or group work
  2. Using a different style of music each week to reflect topics.
  3. Using songs as part of classroom exercises
  4. Creating songs to demonstrate learning
  5. Creating songs to remember definitions, acronyms, mnemonics
  6. Using motivational music to wake them up, get them pumped
  7. Using short clips to get attention or stress a point
  8. Creating personal connections.
  9. Birthdays
  10. Introducing a new topic/subject
